Adventure and Recreation in Kandy
Sri Lanka - Colombo - Negombo - Dambulla - Kandy
Between the months of May and September, adventure and recreation in Kandy assumes a high pitch with windsurfing. The winds are strongest in this period on the southwestern coast of the country. Surfing gears like surfboards, boogie boards and wet equipment can be hired. Several dive sites along the Sri Lankan coast provide the visitor with opportunity for diving and snorkeling. Rafting and canoeing is fostered by the network of inland streams and channels of waterways. One of the rivers is the Kelani in Kitulgala to the southwest of Kandy. The popular canoeing sites are the Kalu Ganga or the Black River.
A great way to discover the island is by cycling. There are four national cycle
trails the Coastal Route follows the stunning coastline for a stretch of 240
kms. The Ancient Route traverses the Cultural Triangle and covers 150 kms. The
Sabaragamuwa Route is a serendipitous sojourn of the country and the tea plantations
for over 240 kms. The Hill Country Route offers the visitor an unparalleled
view of an entirely unique corner of the world. One of the other adventure and
recreation options in Kandy is the horse riding safaris in both the local and
international markets.
