Negombo offers the wide sandy beaches and the safe sea which attract thousands of visitors to Negombo, a traditional fishing town. Several hotels ranging from luxury hotels to small motels, guest houses and restaurants have come up along the coastal stretch called Lewis Place. The fish market is worth visiting where busy trading of a variety of fish including prawns, crabs and seer takes place wide in the mornings when the fishing crafts return to the shore with their catch. Travel Documents

Visitors to Sri Lanka must possess a valid passport together with an appropriate entry visa is required. Extension of stay would be granted on application to the Controller of Immigration and Emigration. Under an order effective from 1.1.90, visitor's visas will be issued on arrival to each passenger carrying a minimum of US Dollars 30 per day and an outbound air ticket.

Currency Regulations

Foreign Currency should be encashed only at banks or authorized money chargers of the Exchange Control Dept. The currency declarations made at entry to the country may be required at this stage

Health Regulations

Visitors to Sri Lanka are required to hold, (if arriving via infected areas) certificates of vaccination against yellow fever and cholera. There are many public and private hospitals; nursing homes and other institutions providing medical services in the city of Colombo and in all other cities throughout the country. The professional standards of doctors, surgeons and other medical professionals are on par with international standards.
