The fall is only four miles distant from the Colombo-Bandarawela route that passes in the form of a clear tract of road from the midsection of forest. Being a wet seasonal waterfall the Bambarakanda accelerates in gratifying speed mostly during the monsoon months of September to March. It is truly spectacular sight to see the Bambarakanda break into an overwhelming waterspout in these months. This waterfall is even taller than the famous Diyaluma falls which in itself is 559 feet in height.

Though minor, the road that leads to Sri Lanka’s Bambarakanda is via Haputale and Kalupahana. The latter is 22 km from Balangoda or 32 km from Wellawaya. Further 3km from Kalupahana along a narrow stretch through Weerakoongama you can reach the famous gorgeous waterfall. The most striking feature of the picturesque fall is the pattern of the entire watercourse swaying to and fro because of the strong winds blowing across it.
