Getting To Taiwan By Boat

Taiwan is located in the north of the East China Sea and in the east of the Sea of Philippines. As Taiwan is an island nation, traveling by sea is one of the important means of transportation to reach there.

There are two major ports in Taiwan- Keelung and the Kaohsiung. Bi-weekly passenger ferry services are available between Okinawa in Japan and Keelung and Kaohsiung in Taiwan. The sea also connects the city of Kaohsiung and Macau. But after the shutting down of sea route between Taiwan and Macau, ferry services between the two island nations has been discontinued now.

Kaohsiung is regarded as an important harbor in Taiwan and East China Sea area. This city has broad areas of water along with other geographical privileges that make it convenient as one of the best sea routes of Taiwan. Kaohsiung is one of the three best container ports of Taiwan. Some of the other important ports in Taiwan are Hualien, Keelung, Taichung and Anping among many others. Approximately 235 ships are on duty in these ports, out of which 64 are for cargo, 38 are passenger ships and 42 are containers.
