The traffic system in Taiwan allows the drives on the right side of the road. The road system connects the major parts of the city together. The capital city of Taipei and Kaohsiung are connected by a highway. Signs in English are made in some of the main streets. The mountain roads are sometimes blocked by the blocks of mud.
Bus is one of the major road transport system in Taiwan. Coach services are available and long distance buses are provided along with the local ones. Some of them are Guo-Guang Bus Corporation, Dragon Bus, Free Go Bus Corporation, Union Bus and the Aloha Bus. You have to reserve your required tickets 14 days before your traveling date.
The travelers are warned not to avail buses on the highway that are illegal and that do not belong to a registered company. The major transferring stops are Taipei, Kaohsiung and Taichung.
Taxis are also available in Taiwan and huge numbers of them are in use. The taxis are usually metered and the rates are TWD 70 for the first 1.5 km. after this the rates star charging TWD 5 for every 300 km. You can also order a taxi on the phone but you have to pay an extra charge of TWD 10 for that. The name of the place you want to reach may have to be written in Chinese for the convenience of the drivers. In Taiwan it is not always necessary to pay a tip to the taxi drivers.
In some of the important cities of Taiwan, the facility of hiring a car is available. But an important point that has to be kept in mind by he passengers is that the car has to have an International Driving Permit. Seat belts have to be used by the driver as well as by the passenger who is sitting in the front seat. The travelers are advised to hire a car with a driver as well if they do not have a clear idea about the roads of Taiwan.
