The rate of the taxi is NT$ 70 for traveling the first 1.5 km and then it starts increasing by NT$ 5 for every 300 meters. If you make the taxi to wait for two minutes, it will cost you NT$ 5. Apart from this, if you avail the taxi between 11 pm to 6 am, you have to pay an extra of 20% on the original fare. If your luggage has to be placed in the trunk of the taxi or you book it on the phone, you have to pay a fee of NT$ 10.
The fare of the taxi may increase during the holidays of the Chinese New Year. The fares are usually determined by the local government of the city. If you have to travel a larger distance, payment through meter is not applicable. Hence the method of charging should be made clear before availing of the taxi.
If the travelers want to take the taxi top the CKS Airport, 50% has to be given on top of the actual fare. The fare of the taxi is somewhat around NT$ 1200 while traveling from CKS Airport to the city of Taipei. Similarly the travel fare between the Hsiaokang airport and the Kaohsiung city is near to NT$ 300.
An important fact that the travelers must keep in mind is that the taxi drivers do not generally speak English. Hence it is recommended that the travelers should approach the hotel personnel to write the name of their destination as well as the name of the hotel and address in Chinese. The expected cost for the taxi can also be written on the slip so that the travelers do not face any difficulty on the way.
In case you face any sort of ill happenings on your way, you are requested to write down the name of the taxi driver along with the license plate of the taxi. It can be then reported to the police department of foreign affairs.
