Taiwan Visa Information

Getting a visa for entering Taiwan is not a hectic job. As you buy a flight ticket from your own country to Taiwan, you will be given a “Visa Exempt Entry”. You may also be given a “Visa Free” on your arrival at the airport of Taiwan. This helps you to reside in Taiwan for two weeks. Apart from this, you can also avail a “Landing Visa” by paying a reasonable amount and you can stay there for thirty days.

These cases may be applied for a short stay in Taiwan. But for visiting and enjoying the beauty of this land, this would be risky as this visa cannot be extended. Hence you will have to fly to a country located nearby like Japan or Hong Kong and return back to extend the old visa. Visiting the Taiwan consulate is another difficult job as it may take innumerable number of days to get your job done.

To get rid of all these difficult situations, the best way would be to apply for a “Visitor Visa” in your own country before coming to Taiwan. This visa has the provision of extending your stay till six months instead of thirty days. This visa is also extendable just by visiting the local police station and getting your passport stamped that will immediately extend your stay in Taiwan.

In case you want to be a resident of Taiwan or want to stay there for more than a year, you have to apply for a resident visa or a work visa. You may have to fly to a nearby country as a “Visa Run”, but you will not have to go back to your original country for becoming a resident of Taiwan.

Working in Taiwan is not allowed without a Work Permit. Your stay in Taiwan cannot be extended even for one day as your visa time period finishes. In cases of emergencies like if you unfortunately meet with an accident or are hospitalized or you miss your last flight, you will be in a lesser problem. You just have to report about this to the Foreign Affairs Police at the major police station of any city. If you overstay for thirty days, you have to pay a fine of about NT$ 600.

If otherwise you have stayed over without a valid reason, you will never be allowed to enter without a visa. It may so happen that you won’t be able to issue one even if you want, for violation the norms of the visa policy and hence will never be able to visit Taiwan again.
