Lantern Festival Taiwan
The Lantern Festival is also referred as the Shang Yuan Festival and is usually celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first moon. The history of the festival go back a long way since the Chinese people all round the world has been commemorating this festival since the days of the Han Dynasty.
This festival as the name suggests is all about lanterns as a variety of them depicting stuff like beasts, birds and historical figures. Several such decorative lanterns are carried by the children to school and other educational institutions as they symbolize hope and luck for a better future.
Several activities like riddle solving contests are held in various public places like parks and temples where members of the public are invited and are asked to participate in the activity. Other than lighting which is associated with this festival there is an activity of indulging in some eating also as people have to eat a traditional dish called the Tang Yuan which is usually rice dumplings which is a symbol of family unity aimed at bringing completeness to all and sundry.
