Kenting in southern Taiwan is one of the most exquisite locales of the island. With an azure coastline and a vast resource of flora and fauna, the place is viewed as an ecological treasure and has naturally become a haven for the tourists. Kenting is placed on the Hengchun Peninsula in Pingtung County at the extreme south of Taiwan. The proximity to sea restricts Kenting’s temperature to a pleasant range and thus makes a stay here comfortable all round the year. Attractions in Kenting: Kenting Island is prized for its natural landscape and animal resource that lures in thousands of tourists every year. The major attraction of Kenting is of course its coastline. The waters of Kenting are one of the best places for experiencing the underwater life. The place is a haven for snorkeling, scuba diving, and a host of other beach activities. The dry land coral formations of Kenting are also unique and offer an added attraction to the tourists. Kenting Island is blessed with a diverse and rich vegetation that have made the region the only tropical botanical garden in Taiwan. The Kenting Forest Recreation Area houses thousands of rare varieties of orchids and cactus. The area is replete with a number of interesting sites like the fascinating Shihsun cave of stalactites and stalagmite formations, the vast Maze Forest, the Immortal's Cave, Silver Dragon Cave and the observation tower. The area is home to huge store of animal life as well. A variety of butterflies, reptiles, mammals, birds, and even rare animals like Macaca cyclopsis and Troides aeacus kaguya inhabit the dense tropical forest. Kenting is a stop for the migratory birds in the winter. The Kenting National Park is a vast sanctuary covering 18,084 hectares of land. Established in 1984, this is the first National Park of Taiwan. The park has since then been a home to the precious resources of Kenting. With coastal reefs, limestone formations, river mouths and landscapes that add to the diversity of Kenting’s topography, the area stands as one of the most exciting places to visit. The National Park also treasures a number of prehistoric sites that speak of the ancient Neolithic period.
