Suao is one of the major cities in the eastern Taiwan. The city has a well equipped port that ranks fifth among he international harbors of Taiwan. The northern part of the city is a bustling port town, while the southern tip is a typical coastal township following a traditional lifestyle as it had down the ages. With traditional wharfs, crowded fish stalls, and fishing boats that have been passed on down generations, the area survives with the typical sights and sounds of a coastal town. Attractions in Suao: The most popular destination in Suao is its cold spring. The city has a number of springs gushing with carbonated water that gives a welcome relief to the ones sinking into the bubbling warm flow. Water from the spring is even used in cooking and the much praised goat-meat stew and glass-bead soda of Suao are made from the carbonated water of the spring. Another major attraction for the tourists in Suao is its old fishing wharf in the south of the city. How to reach Suao: Suao is situated along the coast of Toucheng and can be reached from Taipei by Highway No.9. To reach Suao by rail, one has to travel to Taipei by train from Hualien.
