Taoyuan is the nerve centre of Taiwan’s business, politics and culture. The place had long been home to the aboriginal Pingpu tribes till a group of Fijian immigrants migrate in to the harness the land. The new settlers covered the land with a spread of peach trees. In fact, this is where the place owes its name as 'Taotsaiyaun' is the Chinese for peach garden. The land was later registered as 'Taoyuan' in 1888 by the Ching Dynasty. The R.O.C government later assigned Taoyuan Town as the capital of the Taoyuan Country, and in 1971, the town was recognized formally as a city. Taoyuan is today as busy commercial sector with a number of secondary and tertiary industries With the Chiang Kai-shek International Airport, the city stands truly as a gateway to Taiwan. Located in northern Taiwan, the city enjoys a scenic coastline which draws in a number of tourists to it.
