Chian Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, Taiwan: A Commemoration
When the country had sufficiently recovered from the bereavement of Chiang Kai-Shek’s demise, a Funeral Committee was formed on April 5, 1975 to build a memorial for him. Yang Cho-Cheng’s designs were chosen above the rest and work commenced from October 31, 1976.
Chian Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, Taiwan: The Design
Standing at the height of 70 meters, Chian Kai-Shek Memorial Hall is painted completely in white. Its roof is octagonal with blue glazed glass tiles. The combination of blue and white represents the flag of the Republic of China.
Chian Kai-Shek Memorial Hall has two sets of pristine white stairs total up to 89 in number, a significant figure representing Chian Kai-Shek’s age at the time of his death.
The stairs lead to a spacious chamber which has a bronze state of Chian Kai-Shek. Behind the statue are the inscribed words- "Ethics, Democracy, Science" and also other writings of Chiang.
Chian Kai-Shek Memorial Hall also has a library and a museum, which has many photographs and articles belonging to Chian Kai-Shek.
