National Revolutionary Martyrs’ Shrine was built in the memory of 330,000 men who lost their lives in the revolutionary years leading to the formation of the Republic of China and those who were martyred in the Sino-Japanese war and the Chinese Civil war. People from all over China and abroad come to worship the martyrs. The walls of National Revolutionary Martyrs’ Shrine have inserted on them plates of these revered martyrs. These plates bespeak of the heroic deeds of the martyrs. National Revolutionary Martyrs’ Shrine is guarded by military officers who have undergone rigorous training to remain impassive like statues. The skills of these officers are sorely tested by the taunting tourists. The ceremonial changing of guards in National Revolutionary Martyrs’ Shrine attracts lot of audience.
