Sanhsia Old Street Taiwan

Sanhsia Old Street is located on the south part of Minchuan Road in Sansia in Taipei. The Street is ribbon of history and culture extending over 200 meters long. Sanhsia Old Street is dotted with in excess of hundred old street houses. The street houses exemplify the traditional Taiwanese architecture, with a right touch of Baroque and Japanese styles. The architecture is a throwback to the days when the Republic of China was still in its formative stage.

Located in close proximity to Sanhsia Old Street is the Tsushih Temple which is famous for its intricate wood carving. Tsushih Temple was built in 1769 and received lot of damage towards the end of WWII. The scale of the destruction received may be assessed by the fact that even after 40 years, the restoration work lies incomplete.

The tour programmes to Sanhsia Old Street include trips to Sanhsia Tsu-Shin Temple, Yingko's Pottery Museum and Pottery Street in Yingko. The pottery collection in Yingko comprises hand-painted replicas of Ming and Ching vases. Yinkgo is an old pottery town where apart from the vases the visitors can also buy tea sets and statues.

Sanhsia Old Street receives a lot of visitors, especially during the weekends. A walk through Sanhsia Old Street is a wonderful way of exorcising memories either lived or imagined.
