Shihtiping Taiwan

A tiny port town on the East Coast, Shihtiping is endowed with riches of beautiful sceneries. Shihtiping is believed to have been formed out of volcanic rock, which has now been smoothened by the perennial soil erosion. The formation of small layers on the rock surface created by the constant erosion resemble series of steps, this explains the name ‘Shihtiping’, which means ‘Stone Steps’.

Shihtiping offers great opportunity of fishing, whale watching, diving and hiking to the the tourists. For the variety of ocean experiences it offers, Shihtiping is also known as the East Coast's Ocean Classroom. Shihtiping is the place where whale-watching first started in Taiwan. It has a sighting rate of 90%. Whale-watching is a popular activity in Shihtiping, with the best time for the activity being June to August. A whale-watching trip takes little less than four hours and is conducted in the presence of professional guides.

Shihtiping has a Visitor Center which is meant especially for the tourists. It provides detailed information on the Port’s topography, sea life and vegetation.

The coast line of Shihtiping stretches for a kilometer and is extremely popular among the tourists. A large camp ground is laid for the travelers to spend the night.
