Though its vegetation cover is largely dominated by broadleaf forests, the park also has a profusion of chrysanthemum. Among the animals, the most common in sight are the Formosan rock-monkeys. Then are other animals that shy away from attention like the Formosan Reeve’s muntjac, goats, the Formosan hare etc. Taroko National Park is also favored by bird watchers. The Park has around 89 species of birds. The most frequently seen among them are the water redstart, little forktail and the Formosan whistling thrush. Those who enjoy watching butterflies will be heartened to know that during the months of July and August, Taroko National Park is filled with these winged beings whose inebriated glide invariably trace to the nearest tavern of ambrosia.
