Jaoho Street Night Market

The Jaoho Street Night Market established in 1987, is one of the liveliest markets in Taiwan. The market had initially grown as a business centre due to its position on the busy Jaoho Street and near the Shongshang Railway Station. However, when transportation in the Jaoho Street declined and the business centre received a blow, the night market was established here to give a fresh lease to the business activities of the area.

The Jaoho street night market has now grown into a busy market complex stretching over 600 meters in length. The market thrives in rows of stalls that line the winding Jaoho Street. There are around 150 registered vendors and 400 stalls in the market. The sidewalks are strewn with a colorful display of items that range from clothes to electronic items. The market is an ideal place to shop for local handicraft items. Traditional bamboo pieces, hand-woven clothes and handcrafted jewelry are consistently admired by the tourists to come here to savor a piece of authentic Taiwan. The food stalls of Jaoho market are particularly famous as they cater an authentic spread of local delicacies.

The market comes to life soon after sundown and grows busier by the hour as locals and tourist flock in to experience the magic of one of Taiwan's most popular night markets. The market is visible even from a distance with its traditional arched gateway and the towering neon signs loom which over the stalls below.
