Shilin Night Market

The Shilin Night Market is one of the biggest and busiest night markets in Taiwan. As there was a wharf nearby, the market had grown here initially to trade the farm products that were brought to the wharf from the local farms. The flow of goods gradually mounted and the Shilin Market was formally established in 1909. The market is today a bustling centre for the ones who seek to savor Taipei at night.

Shilin night market is a haven for the shoppers. Be it clothes, fancy goods or electronic gadgets, there is something here to meet every requirement. The market is distinctly divided into two zones; one specializing in food, and the other in fancy and consumer items. The food stalls here sell some authentic preparations like oyster omelets, bubble tea, and also the popular favorites like fried buns and chicken steaks.

It stretches over several blocks to house a fascinating collection of goods. The labyrinthine streets are lined with a variety of stores and glaring neon signs that are forever buzzing with locals and tourists. With its swarm of shoppers, bargaining peddlers, and the appetizing smells from the nearby food stalls, the Shilin market is indeed a fascinating place to visit.

The market usually remains open from 4pm till 2am, though the hours between 8 and 11 pm are the busiest ones here.

The Shiling night market is near the Jintan Station and can be reached by the MRT Dansui Red Line.
