Joe Louis Puppet Theater
The Joe Louis Puppet Theater, Bangkok offers "Hun Lakhon Lek", the traditional Thai small puppet performances, daily at Suan-Lum Night Bazaar. "Joe Louis" or say Sakorn Yangkhiawsod who is well known for having given the new birth to Thai Traditional Puppetry, which was almost on the verge of extinction after World War II, was rendered the award for National Artist in the year 1996.

In Joe Louis Puppet Theater, Bangkok Joe Louis puppet play is performed in a special way. In this play three manipulators control the movement of one puppet; one controls one arm and the trunk, other controls the other arm, and the third in the middle controls the legs. Puppeteers who control the movements of the puppet in this show must be the trained performers in khon dance.

Today the troupe of Joe Louis is the only one in Thailand that has kept the tradition of Thai puppet show alive and continues to perform this wonderful and unique kind of puppet play.

Joe Louis Puppet Theater, Bangkok was opened in 1999 in Nonthaburi. Incidentally, all the puppets and the house in the theatre were destroyed. But in 2002, this theatre was rebuilt where it is currently located now that is in Suan-Lum Night Bazaar.
