The Bangkok International Film Festival, Thailand is among the most prominent events of its kind in south-east Asia. The event is a conglomeration of films, seminars that provide a lot of information and various stars from the Thai and the world film industry.
Bangkok International Film Festival, Thailand 2008
The Bangkok International Film Festival, Thailand 2008 event was an absolute success in every sense of the term. It was a ground breaking year as well with a partnership between the Federation of National Film Associations of Thailand and the Tourism Authority of Thailand.
The Bangkok Film Festival drew huge number of audiences that year. The number exceeded 15,000 and a significant portion of this viewership were people who had hitherto not been to any film event as such.
The range of films on offer at the Bangkok International Film Festival, Thailand 2008 was exemplary with films of eminent directors like Woody Allen gracing the occasion. There were films that highlighted the development of Philippine cinema too.
Bangkok International Film Festival 2009
The Bangkok International Film Festival, Thailand for the year 2009 would be held from 24 to 30th September, 2009. The festival would kick off at the Central World at 18:00 hours and close at the Chatrium Suites Bangkok at the same time. This year too the festival would be supported by the Tourism Authority of Thailand. Jareuk Kaljareuk, Federation of National Film Associations of Thailand President, would reprise his duties as the Festival Director.
Yongyoot Thongkongtoon, film maker and President of the Thai Film Directors Association would be responsible for artistic decoration of the Bangkok International Film Festival, Thailand. The schedule of films to be shown has been decided by Mai Meksawan and Pimpaka Towira after a lot of research.
This year the Bangkok International Film Festival, Thailand would be showcasing almost 80 films from various corners of the world. This event has a couple of competitions lined up as well - the main competition for the films that have been helmed by directors who are doing it for the first or second time. The Southeast Asian Competition would be fought between films in the region.
The Documentary Showcase is a new addition to the Bangkok International Film Festival, Thailand 2009 with the whole move being a result of the popularity of the documentary films. The movies would be screened at the Paragon Cineplex at Siam Paragon and SF World Cinema at the Central World.

The major award bestowed at the Bangkok International Film Festival, Thailand each year is the Golden Kinnaree Awards. The statue has been designed by Professor Preecha Thaothong, who is among the most famous artists in Thailand. The statue is representative of the multicultural and regal aspects of Thailand. In addition, the festival also bequeaths Career Achievement Awards and Lifetime Achievement Awards that are honorary in nature.
