Suvarnabhumi Airport is also known as the New Bangkok International Airport. The Airport is the chief hub for Thai Airways International, Bangkok Airways and the secondary hub for China Airlines and one of the main center for Air India, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, EVA Air, Indian Airlines, Lufthansa and SriLankan Airlines. The International Airport is situated in Racha Thewa in Bang Phli district about 25 km east of Bangkok.
Though Don Muang airport had three terminals, Suvarnabhumi has only one massive one that handles all international and domestic flights. At a size of 563,000sqm, Suvarnabhumi's terminal building is the second largest in the world.
When departing the airport on an international flight there is a 500 baht per person airport departure tax (known as the 'Passenger Service Charge') that is a mandatory amount to be paid (in Thai baht only) before leaving.
It has four major levels, level one is the bus and taxi lobby where you can go to get downtown. Level two is the arrivals area. Level three is the "Meeting Hub" level, and lastly Level four is for departures.
Other facilities at the airport include bars, restaurants and normal shops. The airport has one attached hotel, the 4 star Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel which is only 5 minutes away via an underground walkway.
