National Museum

The National Museum Bangkok is located on Zahra That road between Thammasart University and the National Theatre, and opposite to Phra Main Ground. His majesty King Rama V built the first public museum in 1874 to reveal the royal collection on a common public platform.

The National Museum Bangkok conventionally displays national cultural heritage with the eminence on art archeological and cultural items which has its significance from pre historic era to modern and present days. The National Museum, Bangkok houses three main galleries which are as follows.

The Gallery of Thai History is positioned at Sivamokkhaphiman hall with the ancient gallery at the back part of the building. The two buildings Dvaravati, Srivijaya and Lopburi in the south wing and Lanna, Sukhothai, Ayutthaya and Rattanakosin in the north wing feature history of Art and Archeological Collections.

An assorted collection of minor arts and ethnological collections are showcased and includes gold treasure, woodcarving, entertainment articles, textiles, ceramics, royal regalia, palanquins, old weapons, and stone inscriptions enamel wares, mother-of-pearl inlay, musical instruments, etc are displayed on the galleries of the aged palace.

Royal Cremation ceremonies are displayed and chariots are kept in the cremation chariot hall. The museum is of high monumental value.

European and Chinese furnitures are shown in Issaretra- chanusorn, or King Pin Klao resident. Tamnak Daeng or the Red House, Sala Samarn -
Mukhamat, and other pavillions are edifice of Thai architecture. Visit to National Museum is highly educative and enlightening.
