Lumpini Park, Bangkok is the largest and the oldest public park in the city sprawled across 140 acres of land. The credit for this oasis of greenery goes to King Rama IV in 1920. Located in the heart of Bangkok, at the junction of Rama IV and Ratchadamri roads, Lumpini Park, Bangkok is replete with interesting landmarks. In the olden days, the kings the Lumpini Park, Bangkok was the venue for a number of activities that included kite competitions, cow races, swings and merry go rounds. The Japanese soldiers used the park as their camping site during the war torn days of the Second World War. At present Lumpini Park, Bangkok is quite popular among the joggers and other sport enthusiasts. It has earned a name for itself as a center of a number of physical and leisure activities. In fact the park has a Recreational Center and many private clubs within it. There are two large lakes with paddle boat facilities not to mention the jogging trails that wind through the park. Outdoor gymnasiums and aerobics classes are meant for those who would like to indulge in some physical exercise in open space. But for those who believe more in taxing their brains, there are the library and chess tables. The Lumpini Park, Bangkok assumes a lively character during the weekends with families trickling in with picnic baskets.
