Four Faced Buddha

Thailand - Bangkok - Chiang Mai - Koh Samui Island - Krabi - Pattaya - Phuket
In Bangkok there are several tourist places which are famous throughout the world. Every year thousands of visitors travel to Bangkok from the length and the breadth of the globe. Amongst the various tourist places in Bangkok which are really famous among the travelers, the Four Faced Buddha deserves special mention. Also known as the Erawan Shrine, it is located next to the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel in Bangkok. The Erawan Shrine (San Phra Phrom) was at first meant to be a ‘spirit house’ during the construction of the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel in 1953. During construction, the builders faced a number of problems and under the advice of a spiritual advisor an image of ‘Brahma’ (or ‘Phra Phrom’ – a four-headed god) replaced the spirit house. Construction problems ceased and visitors to the shrine experienced good destiny. The shrine is now visited on a daily basis by hundreds of people who make very specific prayers and proffer to service Brahma if their prayer is approved. Such service might include offering garlands of flowers or purchasing Lotus flowers and candles for the temple. Thai classical dance and music is performed in every few minutes. Service to Brahma can comprise sponsoring the dancers and musicians. Erawan Shrine looks sounds and smells great. With its central site and handiness to shopping centers and restaurants, this is very much a ‘must see’ destination.
