What Where to Eat
Thailand - Bangkok - Chiang Mai - Koh Samui Island - Krabi - Pattaya - Phuket
The main cuisine of the city includes the Thai as well as Northern Thai dishes. The dishes are prepared with a mixture of the ingredients from both India and China. Most of the Thai dishes are spicy in taste and the most popular Thai dishes are pork, shrimp, or beef; chicken as well as the different kinds of curries.
The food of Chiang Mai can be divided into different sections of breakfast, lunch, dinner and the Kantoke dinner. As the Thai people prefer to have breakfast at home thus most of the restaurants and hotels remain closed during the early hours. Some of the restaurants that sell the breakfast prefer to keep pastries and a porridge named 'joke'.
During the lunchtime many great choices can be found throughout the restaurants in the city. A tourist can very well select from Western, Chinese and Japanese food items. As the dinner time approaches, almost every restaurant of the city gets prepared to offer the best of facilities and service to the visitors.
A major attraction of the restaurants in Chiang Mai is the 'Kantoke Dinner'
that requires the customers to get seated on the floor around a circular tray
having Northern dishes. The people are required to eat the food items while
watching the traditional Thai and Northern dances along with hill tribe performances.
Kantoke dinner is the best time to get to know about both the Northern food
as well as the culture.
