Thailand architecture
Thailand's architecture was heavily influenced by external influences like Indian and Khemer. Thai architecture has its own distinct style with towering spires and rooftops. The Thailand architecture goes on to symbolize the Thai soul and spirit. Thai buildings were made out of wood but are now no longer seen, as new patterns and designs have emerged. However early Thai temples stand as proud evidences of the once predominant Thai architecture.

Many monuments were made out of the Khemer pattern where sandstones would be used to build doors, panes, lintels and windows. However in the middle of the 12th century architecture saw an evolution as brick replaced sandstone. Architects used a lot of materials like tucco, sand lime terra cotta. Thai classical architecture can also be found in temples and buildings. The buildings are of bricks and rectangular in shape with a sloping roof. Classical Thai architecture is found in some pockets of Bangkok like Emerald Buddha Temple, Grand Palace, Wat Suthat and Who Pho.

Thai architecture was also influenced by the Chinese and could be seen in the use of porcelain parts and testifies Thai architecture in its harmony and coordination. This form achieved success in the 19th century. However the most famous Buddhist architecture could be seen at Wat Phra Kaeo containing exquisite carving. The temple has within its interiors decorations made out of many colors and textures. The temple faces the golden Ayutthaya with marble prangs and pearl doors. Other examples of Thai architecture are Bangkok's Wat Benchamabophit ( Marble temple) which is the most impressive example of Thai architecture and is carved out of Italian marble.

However a new type of Thai architecture also developed with a domestic style using a lot of wooden pegs and pillars. However the Traditional Thai architecture also saw a downfall around 1900 with buildings being built in European and western styles. However Thai architecture was revamped in 1990s with many new materials and machines and is inspired by western influences in planning, materials and structure. Tall buildings and skyscrapers adorn the Thai sky these days as many new apartments and resorts have been emerging in Thailand since the late 1990s.

Thus Thai architecture though found in some ancient temples and shrines has finally come off age!
