A large number of colorful festivals are held in Ko Samui from time to time. Children's Day is one such festival, which is celebrated with great pomp in this exotic island of Thailand.
Children's Day, Ko Samui is celebrated on the second Saturday of January every year. It is a much-awaited festival, especially amongst the children of the town. Children's day in Thailand was first held on the first Monday of October in the year 1955. This continued till 1963, after which it was changed to the second Saturday of January. As children are considered the future of the country, hence Children's Day in Ko Samui is given a lot of importance and hence celebrated with great fanfare and gaiety.
A large number of events and functions are organized for the children in this festival. Both the children as well as the elders participate in these functions. Dance performances, singing competitions, sit and draw competitions and other similar events are organized on this day. Children wear bright and colorful clothes and go out with their parents on this festive day.
On this day, children are given special treatment and privileges everywhere. In many places like the amusement parks and other places where one has to enter with a ticket, children are either allowed free of cost or at half rates. Parents take their little ones to see the numerous attractions of the island and the surrounding places. They also go for boat rides with their parents. A large number of goodies and gifts are also given to the children. The schools organize a large number of events for the children on this grand day.
