Ko Samui Tourism

A relatively obscure island before the 1970s, Ko Samui became a favorite destination after a few adventurers discovered it in the early 1970s. Hidden behind rows of gently swaying coconut trees and marked by characteristically white, sandy beaches, Ko Samui attracts lots of tourists every year. In a span of only a couple of decades, Ko Samui tourism has become of the main attractions of Thailand.

Ko Samui tourism has received a big boost after the improvement of the facilities and infrastructure. The upward trend of tourism in the area can be attributed to the fact that despite such rapid developments, Ko Samui still retains the feel of a secluded retreat.

Adventure and recreational activities form a major part of tourism in Ko Samui. One can enjoy kayaking through hidden lagoons and snorkeling among lovely coral reefs. Plenty of tourist spots are also located within the 15 km circumference of the island. Some of the popular points of interest are the Big Buddha Temple, the Grandfather and Grandmother Rocks, the Na Muang Waterfall and lots more.

The idyllic climate of the region, too, has contributed to the rising trend in Ko Samui tourism. During peak tourist season in the period between December and August, the temperature remains constant between 28 and 32°C.

Ko Samui is easily accessible. Travelers can either fly to Ko Samui from Bangkok and Phuket, or take a train to Surat Thani from the Hualamphong Railway Station in Bangkok. After coming to Surat Thani, one can take a ferry ride to Ko Samui.
