Shopping is one of the popular things to do in Ko Samui. As such there are lots of shopping complexes and areas from where people can buy their choicest products at affordable rates.Although there are plenty of shopping areas in every part of Ko Samui island, the major shopping destinations are limited to the markets at Chaweng, Nathon and Lamai among a few others.

The Lamai Shopping Area in Ko Samui is a lot smaller compared to the Chaweng market. However, the products offered here are much affordable compared to other markets. The entire shopping area, especially the beach road and the Ban Lamai on the Main Road (Ring Road), is lined by several small shops and boutiques. A number of local-owned convenience stores besides famous outlets like ' 7-Eleven' and 'Family Mart' are also found around the area. 'Friendly Mart' stocks a wide variety of Thai and foreign food, drinks and snacks. You will also find some small funky shops which sell unique gift items at reasonable rates.

Among the prominent stores at Lamai is 'Mr Samui's'- specializing in bracelets, anklets, necklaces, rings and earrings, trinkets and scarves made of gold, silver and various precious gems. You can also visit 'Dreamcatcher' near Hinta HinYai' the shop which sells silver jewelry inlaid with precious gems such as turquoise, amber and island shells.

Another well-visited store is 'Exotica' where you'll find reasonably priced handmade designer jewelry which includes some eye-catching stones and settings.

If you've had enough of ornaments and trinkets at Lamai Shopping Area, Ko Samui, you can head for 'Island books' - one of the best second hand book shops in Ko Samui. Some other shops include 'Popala House', famous for exquisite teak furniture, ornate carvings and religious idols in metal and wood. Then there is 'Samui Hotclub', which sells good quality affordable clothing like Thai fisherman's trousers, kaftans and printed sarongs and accessories. Visit the 'Hin Ta Hin Yai' group of stalls for some traditional coconut wood carvings and shell ornaments.
