The small city of Krabi is situated upriver from the coast where tourists from different parts of the globe make a beeline.
Krabi covers an area of 4,707 square kilometers and is located some 814kms south of Bangkok. Even a few days back Phuket was one of the closest airports. Krabi International Airport has opened very recently.
Features of Krabi International Airport - Krabi International Airport is conveniently located and is about 10 km from the city limits, 15km from city centre, and 40km from Ao Nang. Thai Airways runs daily direct flights to/from Bangkok, Air Asia also is running similar flights from March 1st 2006. Tiger Airways also flies directly to/from Singapore nearly every day of the week and to/from Darwin on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and also on Saturdays.
The international departure tax surcharge is around 500 baht while domestic departure tax is included in the cost of the flight.
National Car Rental also has got a branch at the airport.
Motorcycle taxi rides are easily available outside the terminal.
The Deputy Transport Minister officially inaugurated a new four-floor domestic-passenger terminal at Krabi International Airport recently. In the words of Pisarn Jinacharn, Director of Krabi International Airport “The terminal has been built for domestic passengers and offers a number of facilities like restaurants, banks, taxi services and car rental offices. It has an area of 10,593 square meters and a maximum capacity of 1,200 passengers.
The opening of the Krabi International Airport is an achievement in itself because it has made Krabi easier to access for tourists across the globe.
