The population of Krabi is a mosaic formed by various multi cultural groups, unlike the north and centre of Thailand, which is almost entirely Buddhist. Krabi's population consists of a mix of Muslims, Buddhists, Chinese-Thais and a small minority of sea gypsies (chao lay). A strong spirit of brother hood and high level of tolerance and respect for other cultures has made these groups a harmonious community. The diversity and rich cultural heritage of each of these groups have together contributed in developing a unique cultural mélange of Krabi. The Thai's are a group of people who take extreme pride in their long history and well-established, complex hierarchal structure of status. The social hierarchical structure starts with the Royal family and percolates down. The hierarchy usually deemed by age or wealth is well known and respected by everyone in Thailand.

As per the status, the one lower in the hierarchy greets the other by initiating the 'wai' - a submissive and graceful bringing together of the hands to the chest or beneath the nose (to show ultimate respect). On family as well as social level, elders are referred as 'pii' (older sibling). In fact social grace is of paramount importance and the formal suffix 'kha' (female) and 'khrup' (male) is added to the end of all sentences when addressing strangers, employers/employees or elders.

Some basic etiquette, which the visitors should be aware of are:
  -   Do not lose your temper
  -   Do not point dirty feet towards anyone.
  -   Do not wear shoes in indoor living areas.
  -   Do not touch someone else on the head, unless he/she is an intimate friend.
