The Doi Inthanon National Park in Thailand is named after the largest mountain in Thailand, Doi Inthanon, which the Park also encompasses. The park is located on the Chiang Mai Province and covers 48240 hectares of land.

Features of the Doi Inthanon National Park: the beautiful scenery of the Park includes green forests and the Mae Ya Waterfall that is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Thailand. Here are some of the salient features of the park:

The park contains many high mountains among which Doi Inthanon is the highest.

Since the park ascents from the mountain summit to a great height, the temperature in the park falls below 0 degree centigrade during the month of December and January.

Moist hill evergreen or "cloud forest" can be found on the slopes where mist is persistent. You can find an abundance of Epiphytic orchids and other Epiphytic plants.

You cannot find red rhododendron in Thailand only on the summits area of the Park. The Park also possesses two white-blossomed species that are restricted only to a few places in Thailand.

The Doi Inthanon National Park boasts of a wide variety of birds. Certain birds that can be found in Doi Inthanon only are Ash throated warbler, a type of green tailed sunbird, chestnut bellied Rockthrush and the yellow bellied Flowerpecker. You can buy a booklet with bird checklist from the store next to the Park Headquarters for 40 baht. There are total 382 bird species in Doi Inthanon National Park.

The park also supports many wild animals like the Siamese hare and the red jungle fowl.

Facilities:
There is a large compound comprising of 11 guesthouses right behind the Park. There is also camping facility.

There are food stalls located at various points in the Park.

There is also an information and interpretive center recently opened on the summit of the Park.


The best way to reach the Doi Inthanon National Park is by private transport since there are plenty of things to see on the way to the Park. The foreigners are charged with 200 bahts and the Thais are charged with 20 bahts.
