Tarutao National Park Thailand

The Tarutao National Park in Thailand is a Marine Park renowned for its haunted beauty and it is ideally named Tarutao that means "Old and Mysterious". Situated in the Satun province, this is the first Marine Park of Thailand. The Park consists of 51 islands and they are grouped into two island groups: Tarutao and Adang-Rawi. Among these islands, Ko Tarutao is the largest island and had long been a prison house for political prisoners.
The Park sports many attractive beaches.

Features of the Tarutao National Park, Thailand:

The Parkland is mostly mountainous with the exceptions of a few valleys and broad plains.

Semi evergreen forests cover 60% of the Park area.

You will also find pure Mangrove swamps in many places around the Park.

The whole of Tarutao is primarily composed of very old Cambrian Sandstones. The park also features many limestone caves.

The Adang Island, with its wild landscape and dense rain forest regions forms a major tourist attraction. The island also has superb coral reefs that are home to several bright and colorful fishes!

The wildlife mainly comprises of mouse deer, wild pigs and langurs. Apart from these, there are also soft-shelled turtles, fishing cats, monitor lizards and flying lemurs.

The Tarutao National Park is also excellent for bird watching as well as it is home to more than 100 bird species. Reef egrets, white-bellied sea eagles, hornbills, and ospreys can be located.

There is also an abundance of marine life in the park and the Park is said to contain about 25% of the world's fish species. Significant fishes include shark, ray, eel, catfish, salmon, angelfish, and butterfly fish. Among the marine mammals, you may find dolphins, dugongs, sperm whales and minke whales.

The park has arranged a boat ride for the tourists around the Ko Tarutao Island so that you may fully absorb its exotic ambience. You can also go for kayaking and canoeing.

Tarutao National Park by boat leaves from Pakbara port in Satun Province on the mainland everyday at 10:30 and 14:00. And two boats return daily, leaving Pante Bay at 09.00 and 14.00.
