Chonburi Province Annual Festival

The Chonburi Province Annual Festival has been held since 1932. Organized by the people of Chonburi, the festival combines other festivals such as Puttha Sihing, Songkran and the Red Cross Fair into one. Held in the mid of the month of April, the festivities involving bathing the images of Buddha and taking the Pra Puttha Sihing Buddha image in a procession. Water pouring events for the elders, folk games, classical masked dances or Khon, exhibitions and cultural performances are held.
The Chonburi Province Annual Festival is held every year to conserve tradition and customs as well as to instill in the youngsters the sense of value in the cultural heritage of the land. Chonburi is close to Pattaya and people join the festivities during this time of the year.

Pattaya is a part of the Chonburi Province and another important festival of Chonburi is the buffalo race. Held in during October it is one of the most engaging festivals of Chonburi. Elaborately dressed in silk and satin water buffaloes are taken in processions to determine the best dressed and healthiest buffalo of the group. People all over Thailand come to watch the event of Buffalo race. It is however at this quarter of the year a popular beauty contest is also held to determine the attractive ‘farm maiden’.
