Wan Lai Festival
The Wan Lai Festival is held in the mid of April, a festival celebrating the advent of the New Year on the Buddhist Calendar. Also known as the Songkran festival in Thailand, it is one of the wildest festivals held on the 13th to 15th April. Initially it was a family celebration where the young poured scented water in the hands of the elder and in turn the elders blessed the young. Later in the afternoon after the images of Buddha are washed, water is splashed on everyone. The tradition of family gatherings and ceremonies still exist, water splashing has stolen the show of the event.

It is with great gusto people in Thailand as well as Pattaya splash water on each other with even pickup trucks dowsing passersby with gallons of water. It is almost a water fight, one waiting to catch the other unawares and eventually successful in drenching each other. Fun and excitement reign through out the day. Tourists should be careful to leave valuables at the hotel and carry mobiles or cameras in plastic pouches. Wan Lai festival or the water throwing festival is held in Pattaya from 16th to 19th of the month of April. The intensity of the heat is cooled of by initiating this festival leaving everyone cool at the end of the day.
