History of Pattaya
Thailand - Bangkok - Chiang Mai - Koh Samui Island - Krabi - Pattaya - Phuket
Pattaya’s location finds mention for the first time in the history of Thailand when in 1767 Phraya Tak who was later coronated as King Taks paraded to Chanthaburi and crossed the area after the decline of the erstwhile capital Ayuthaya. Pattaya’s increasing popularity among the tourists both local as well as people from the European countries, made the national government in 1978 grant it a city status. The city celebrates its anniversary every 29th of November. With its steady development the infrastructure of the city kept pace. Bangkok’s new airport at Suvarnabhumi is only about an hour’s distance from Pattaya.
With the immense growth of the city from 1960, history of Pattaya draws out a brief sketch of the village of Pad Tha Ya into a city called Pattaya.
