Transportation in Phuket

Thailand - Bangkok - Chiang Mai - Koh Samui Island - Krabi - Pattaya - Phuket
The largest island in Thailand, the most populous and the most popular one- Phuket is a major watershed in the tourism industry of Thailand. Getting from one place to another in Phuket can be a cakewalk if you are well aware of the road maps, directions and fares. The transportation in Phuket is various both in terms of medium as well as costing. The list below will give you a fair idea on how to get where in Phuket.

Phuket Taxi Service
The tuk-tuks- the famous three-wheeled vehicles popularized by Discovery and the Bond movies are now extinct and have been replaced by four-wheeled red vehicles open on both sides. The standard rate for a ride from one point in Patong to another is 20 Baht, from Patong to Phuket is 150 Baht, from Patong to Karen Beach is 100 Baht, and from Patong to the airport (a forty five minute ride) is 450 Baht. These taxis are available aplenty in Phuket Town and Patong.

Phuket Bus Service
There is a daytime bus service (songthaew) to most parts of the island. Songthaew (means two rows) refers to the two wooden benches that run down each side of this colorful wooden-bodied public transport vehicle. All buses run on a fixed pre-ordained route between popular locations like Patong and back to the songthaew stop or Ranong Road in Phuket Town. The bus fare between Patong and Phuket Town is 15 Baht, and the travel time is about thirty minutes. If you are willing to go through the not-so-comfortable journey for the sake of travel, bus service is the cheapest mode of transportation in Phuket.

For short sightseeing trips from Phuket Island you can avail of the Phuket Ferry Service and long tail boats. For cross-country commuting you can always avail a flight from the Phuket International Airport.
