The largest island in Thailand, the most populous and the most popular one- Phuket is a major watershed in the tourism industry of Thailand. And festivals and events in Phuket are more than you can even think of. In this cosmopolitan island there are festivals for every faith, every religion every race, and every kind of tourist for that matter. The King's Cup Regatta Phuket organized every December is the largest international yachting event to be organized in Phuket. The race begins on 2 nd December and goes on till the 9 th of the month. The Regatta is the region's premier international sailing event, attracting some of the world's best yachtsmen. The annual Phuket King's Cup Regatta is pretty much the jewel in the crown of Asia's yachting circuit. It takes place off the Phuket shores with a large range of yacht from racing yachts and sport boats to cruisers and classics. The King's Cup Regatta was inaugurated in 1987 to celebrate the 60th birthday of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand and has been organized every December since then. The event sees the gathering mostly at the Kata Beach, of fans and participants from allover the world and the nights during the event are spiced up by a mad rush of partying. The Regatta is held under the Royal Patronage of HM the King, and organized by Phuket King's Cup Regatta Organizing Committee and the guidance of the Royal Varuna Yacht Club, in conjunction with the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand, the Royal Thai Navy and the Province of Phuket.
