The largest island in Thailand, the most populous and the most popular one- Phuket is a major watershed in the tourism industry of Thailand and festivals and events in Phuket are more than you can even think of. Cosmopolitan as this island is, there a festival for every faith, every religion every race, and every kind of tourist for that matter. The Chinese New Year in Phuket Town is celebrated in vibrant colors. Phuket Town is the largest town in the Phuket province and has a sizeable Chinese population. The Chinatown area in fact is quite famous and popular among tourists. The Chinese New Year comes in the month of February and revolves around certain animals for the year, just as the year 2006 was the year of the Dog. The new year celebrations include boisterous and colorful dragon parades, Chinese traditional music and dance and of course, lots and lots of your favorite Chinese food. The Chinese New Year celebration in Phuket Town also sees the Phang Nga Bay Regatta Event- an annual international sailing event. This competition attracts approximately 30 yachts each year. The sailing route ordained for the competition includes some of Thailand's most beautiful areas including Phang Nga Bay, Koh Yao Noi, Koh Phi Phi and Krabi.
