Located around 45 kms away from the main city of Phuket and home to the charming Sea Gypsies, the beautiful Phi Phi Islands, Phuket are today one of the most important tourist attractions of Thailand. The first settlers to the island came as late as 1950, when people from Koh Yai arrived in the Phang Nga Bay region located north of the Phi Phi Islands . Calm seas welcome you to the island, while enthralling you with the brilliant azure shade of their crystal clear waters. Located between the mainland and the district of Phuket, the Phi Phi Islands , Phuket are a must-visit while on a holiday to Thailand . The largest island of the group collectively named Phi Phi Islands is called Ko Phi Phi Don, which is Thai for “islands”. Ko Phi Phi Don is the only inhabited portion of the Phi Phi Islands and is the hub for all activities of tourism in the Phi Phi Islands . Almost all the other parts of theses picturesque islands are uninhabited including the island's second largest portion called Ko Phi Phi Leh. Perhaps the tourist potential of the Phi Phi Island first came into the limelight after the release of the film “Beach”, extensive portions of which were filmed on these islands. The island is also home to the Viking Caves which is in turn the site for the famous “bird's nest soup” industry, which produces this famous Chinese delicacy.
