Ayutthaya, the ancient capital of Thailand, is situated about 90 kilometers from Bangkok, Located at the confluence of Pa Sak, Chao Phraya and Lopburi Rivers, this mystic city enamors all with its ancient charm.

Founded in 1350, Ayutthaya became the capital of King U-Thong's kingdom. It soon flourished as a hub for international commerce exporting ivory, animal skin, rice etc. But the legend says that the King came here to escape the outbreak of smallpox in Lop Buri and in the process was established Ayutthaya. The city was later burnt and destroyed by the Burmese army in 1767 and now it stands as Ayutthaya historical park, internationally recognized under the UNESCO World heritage site.

The best way to enjoy the beauty of Ayutthaya is also one of the most economical one. Just ride a bicycle around the enchanting city and carry a guide book as your sole mentor, experiencing the architectural brilliance of this ancient city.

Temples:

- Wat Phra Si Sanphet: largest temple in Ayutthaya, renound for its Chedis
- Ancient Palace: one can gauge the magnificence of the palace through the remaining ruins.
- Viharn Phra Mongkol Bopitah: is famous for its large bronze cast Buddha statue.
- Wat Phanancherng: contains the oldest cast bronze Buddha image and also has a unique collection of images of Buddha.
- Wat Ratchaburana: Its main attraction is a large - prang - and mysterious staircase leading you into unrestored rooms with original wall paintings.
- Wat Phra Ram: Small Chedis and a large Prang stand out at this historical site.
- Wat Yai Chaimongkon: It contains a large reclining Buddha in Saffron robes and a huge Chedi swaddled in a golden cloth, with a courtyard surrounded with images of Buddha in saffron robes.
- Wat Nah Phra Meru: A large Viharn with an image of a big bronze Buddha in royal ceremonial garments is sure to attract your attention.
- Wat Phra Mahathat: With its leaning Prangs and headless Buddha's, this large temple tells the tale of Burmese destruction.
- Wat Phu Khao Thong: This Wat has a unique white Chedi and an image of a smiling Buddha.
