The temple ruins in Lopburi take you back into time. The Prang Sam Yot was originally a Hindu shrine and was converted into a Buddhist temple during the reign of king Narai. This Hindu shrine has three phrangs that represent Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, which forms the Hindu trinity.
Saan Phra Kaan or the Saan Phra shrine is also an interesting tourist destination, it is a pristine Khmer shrine and Phra Kaan is the reigning deity of the temple. You will find hordes of monkeys around this temple and they feast on the food brought to them by the locals who believe that these monkeys are the disciples of Phra Kaan. Many new temples have been recently built into the existing ruins.
The Lopburi monkey festival is also an interesting event held in every year on the last Sunday of November. The local people arrange a sumptuous meal for the monkeys on this day. The locals believe that feeding the monkeys would bring them good fortune. The festival takes place around Prang Sam Yot and you will be charged 30 bahts for entering the place.
The Narai Ratchaniwet Palace that was built by king Narai in 1665 stands at the center of the town. The Palace compound now serves as the Lopburi National Museum.
Sap Langka Wildlife sanctuary is a popular destinations for nature lovers.
Visit the sunflower field in Lopburi, which is the largest in the country. The best time to be there is November and January when the flowers are in full bloom.
The King Narai fair is also a popular event that includes a spectacular light and sound show. The fair is held to commemorate the reign of king Narai.
