Nong Khai is situated in the North East of Thailand, beside the Mekong River.
The place is most famous for its Thai Lao friendship bridge. Apart from this, it has many other places of interest including museum parks and highlands. That attracts plenty of tourists throughout the year.

Places of interest in Nong Khai, Thailand:
Thai Lao friendship bridge: this bridge was built together by the governments of Thailand, Laos and Australia in 1994.The bridge runs over the river Mekong.

Wat Phu Tok: This is a spiritual destination and comprises of a vast collection of wooden ramps and ladders that reaches a rocky outcrop in seven stages, symbolizing the seven steps towards enlightenment.

Sala Kaew Ku: This awesome piece of sculpture was done by Luang Pa Bunleua Sulilat. It is a conglomeration of Buddhist, Hindu and Confucian ideas and the entry charge is 10 baht. The wheel of life is the most interesting with the statues depecting the seven stages of human life. The remains of Luang Pa's mummy is enshrined in the third floor of the pavillion.

The Mekong River: the picturesque Mekong river is another attraction of the city.

The Phu Pra Bat: this is a historical park and it is famous for its queer rock formations.

The Taa Sadej market is situated in the centre of the town and is known for the wide variety of things displayed in it from Laos, China, Vietnam and Thailand.this market is popular among the thais as well as the foreigners.


Events and festivals in Nong Khao, Thailand:
Prap Ho Monument Festival: this event celebrates the bravery of the Thais who resisted the Ho Chinese armies and it takes place in the month of March

Come to Nong Khai at the end of October to witness the magical Naga fireballs emerging from the river. This festival is one of the most popular ones in Nong Khai.

The Loy Krathong Festival takes place on the full moon night in November. People go to the river and float Krathongs or small boats made of banana leaves in order to thank the river.
