The Samutprakarn province is located in central Thailand and is located at the mouth of the Chao Phraya River as it joins the Gulf of Thailand. This is why the place is also called Pak Nam that means "the mouth of a river". The province of Samutprakarn was founded during the Ayutthaya period.

Places of interest in Samutprakarn, Thailand:

The Samutprakarn Crocodile Farm: It is the largest Crocodile farm in the world with over 60000 crocodiles. The largest crocodile in this Park is named "Yai" and is a Siamese hybrid crocodile. Don't miss the chance of having a close look at these dangerous reptiles.

The Ancient City: This is the largest open-air museum in the world and covers about 80 hectare of land. The Park contains replicas of the significant monuments in Thailand. it is also a popular picnic spot.

Wat Asokaram: this temple is a place of meditation. The Phra thutungka chedi is located here and it is a collection of 13 chedis that symbolize the 13 regulations for pilgrimage.

The Dinosaur Museum: this museum is located in the compound of the crocodile farm and zoo. There are displays of model dinosaurs and there is also an auditorium that can accommodate up to 350 people for films and slide shows.

Phra Samut Chedi: this is a famous pagoda that contains a Buddha relic and two Buddha images.


Festivals and events held in Samutprakarn, Thailand:

Phra Samut Chedi festival: this is one of the most important festivals held in Samutprakarn. The festival lasts for nine days and nine nights and starts on the 5th day of the waning moon. During this festival, several people from all over Thailand came to pay homage to the Chedi. People also sew a large red cloth to wrap around the chedi.

Lotus flower receiving festival: this is a traditional festival and is handed down from one generation to the other in Bang Pli District. It is held one day before the end of the Buddhist Rain Retreat. People throw lotus flowers into the canal in order to pay homage to the Triple Gem: Buddha, Sangka and Dhamma.

Boat race: there is a annual boat racing competition that is held in Phra Pradaeng.the race is held on the 11th lunar month of every year.

Samutprakarn can be reached from Bangkok via the Sukhumvit road. There are many buses running in this route. Also the place can be reached by waterway as the Chao Phraya River provides an easy access to the province.
