This is a province located in the central region in Thailand. The capital of the Province also bears the same name. The place is very ancient and was founded in the 13th century. At that time, the province was known as the Sukhothai Kingdom. It was the first independent Thai kingdom and today it is of great historical importance, housing several primeval ruins of temples and monuments. Places of interest in Sukothai, Thailand: The Sukhothai Historical Park: This is the most interesting place to visit in Sukothai. The Park houses many significant ruins and temples. UNESCO has declared it as the World Heritage Site. There are a number of things to see around the Park like the Royal palace, the Ramkhamhaeng National Museum, Wat Sa Si,the Ramkhamhaeng Monument and much more. The Park is open from 8.30am to 4.30 pm. It is also separated into 5 zones and entry into each zone costs 10 bahts except the central zone that charges an entry fee of 40 bahts. Sri Satchanali National Park: The Park area is mountainous and has splendid flower gardens and interesting wildlife. Tad Dao waterfall is one of the central attractions of the Park. It is 40 meters high waterfall. Other focal points are Kang Kao Cave, Tad Dean Waterfall and Pong Nam Dean. The Park also features a number of important ruins. Sri Satchanali National Park remains open on all days of the week from 8.00am to 6.00pm and charges an entry fee of 40 bahts. Sukhothai has a small bus station and there are plenty of buses running from Bangkok to Sukhothai. However it is more convenient to take a train to Phitsanulok and then go to Sukothai by bus.
