Surat Thani is a province in Southern Thailand and the name of the province means "City of Good People".

Events held in Surat Thani, Thailand: There are two major events held in this place that attracts visitors.

Chak Phra festival: This festival is held annually in the month of October. It is the celebration of the annual three-month Buddhist rain retreat. People believe that the festival marks Buddha's return to earth. The festival is characterized by colorful processions and there is also a boat racing competition held in Tapi River.

Ram Butan Fair: This also an annual fair that is held in the month of august. The fair celebrates the first planting of rambutan tree in this area. The fair displays local products and there are other entertainments as well.

Places of interest in Surat Thani:

Phra Boromathat Chaiya: This is a pristine pagoda that contains Buddha relics.

Chaiya National Museum: The museum displays ancient bronze statues of lord Vishnu that was discovered in the Ancient city of Chaiya. There are also other artifacts from the historic periods of Dvaravati, Srivijaya and Ayutthaya.

Monkey schools: This is an amazing place where expert trainers teach the wild monkeys to pick coconuts.

Koh Samui: This Island is the major attraction of Surat Thani. The island is covered with coconut trees and the island is famous for its lovely beaches.


You can get to Surat Thani by train from Bangkok or also access the place by bus or boat services. The place is mountainous and also has plateau. The two major rivers of this province are Phum Duang and the Tapi River.
