Ancient City (Muang Boran) Thailand

Thailand - Bangkok - Chiang Mai - Koh Samui Island - Krabi - Pattaya - Phuket
The Ancient City in Thailand is often taken to be the world's biggest outdoor museum. It is located on the old Sukhumvit Highway that is 33 km east from the central of Bangkok. This spreads to about 80 hectares of land and it has 109 scaled down versions of the most popular monuments of Thailand. All locations are geographically correct. Some of them are life sized while others are about one-third the original sizes.

Attractions of the Ancient City
All the buildings have been replicated with great care and skill. These have been built with the help of the experts from the National Museum so as to ensure the historical accuracy of the place.

The best works include the Grand Palace of Ayutthaya that was destroyed in the Burmese incursion of 1767, the Wat Khao Phra Viharn on the Cambodian border and the Phimai Sanctuary in Nakhon Ratchasima.

The Ancient City also has the sculptures that feature in the Thai epic, the Ramakien. The place is spacious and the gardens beautifully manicured. It may take a day to explore this fascinating place especially if you do not have time to visit the originals.

Adults are charged 50 bahts and 25 bahts for children. But discounts are available for those traveling in groups. There are innumerable air-conditioned buses that will take you to The Ancient City, Muang Boran.
