Doi Suthep Chiang Mai
The Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai is located among the beautiful peaks of the Doi Suthep. The temple is set amidst the Mae Ping River valley and Chiangmai. It was built in the Lanna period. According to popular folklore this site was chosen by an elephant who was allowed to roam freely. When it reached this particular spot it circled around the place thrice, trumpeted and kneeled down indicating the site for the temple.

There has been some eroding of the past glamour of the place but it never the less remains a very important place for visitors who are coming for the first time.

There is the chedi atop all the peaks and these needs to be visited. There are also the larger plazas that contain the courtyard building and the look out point from where one can get spectacular glimpses of the surrounding plains of the Chiang Mai.

There is also a small museum among the buildings of Doi Suthep. It displays the unique and the ancient monetary donations given to the temple and also the remnants of the temple wares.

There are the songthaews available from the market area of the Chotana Roads and the Manneenopparat outside the Changpuak Gate. There is also a round trip that includes the Doi Pui Maeo village and the entire journey will cost you about 150 Baht.

The only problem that might crop up is the fact that to reach the temple one has to climb about 309 tiring steps. This would be a difficult for some.
