The Bangkok film festival had started in the year 2003. It is an annual festival that is held in the month of January or February in Bangkok every year. The festival not only features film screenings but also other events, competition and seminars. Some of the competitions held in the Bangkok International Film Festival: International competition: 12 feature films are selected from all countries of the world and there is an award for the best director, actor and actress. Reel World: This competition involves recent feature length documentaries. ASEAN competition: Films in this category from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand. Asian Short Films: This competition involves short films from all over Asia. Awards for newcomers: This award goes to a new director who has done one or two feature films. 10 to 15 films all over the world are selected for this competition.
