What to watch in the Chinese New Year in Thailand:
Lion dances and dragon dances are the most significant things to watch during the Chinese New Year in Thailand. These dances are performed in order to ward off evil spirits.
Demonstrations of martial arts are also a part of the festival.
You can see splendid banquets displayed on the streets that are meant to satiate the Chinese ancestral spirits. Such offerings are supposed to bring good fortune. There is roasted duck, fruits, edible Chinese flowers, Chinese cakes and various other food items included in the display.
Clothes and gold are also offered to the ancestors. However, all the paper offerings are burned at the end of the festival.
Children receive lucky money in red packets that is considered to be lucky money.
There are also Chinese street operas performed on the roadsides.
Families get together to enjoy an extravagant meal. This is called the reunion dinner.
The excellent fireworks mark the end of the New Year celebration.
